Drupal 7 Dating Site – Drupal dating site !

In a blog post announcing the June launch date of Drupal 9 , Drupal founder and project lead, Dries Buytaert , revealed the latest roadmap for Drupal version support. The announcement marks an exciting milestone for the Drupal community but also starts the countdown to the end of life date for not one, but two, major versions of Drupal. With the support cycles for both Drupal 7 and 8 coming to an end in , now is the time for Drupal site owners to consider what an upgrade or migration might look like for them , and to better understand the impact of these dates on the future of Drupal. When a piece of software reaches its end of life date, it will no longer receive bug fixes or security updates from the maintainers. Dropping support for deprecated versions of Drupal is a way for maintainers to drive adoption toward modern platforms that leverage current technology as effectively as possible. Come November , both Drupal 7 and 8 will reach end of life, but each for slightly different reasons. In November , Drupal 7 will be over 10 years old. Drupal 7 was a huge step forward when it was released, but Drupal 8 continued to push things with a complete rework of the underlying architecture and a wealth of powerful new features, including a revamped release cycle , that rendered Drupal 7 obsolete.

Theming a Node Post Date With Drupal 7

Drupal 7 will be end-of-life in November , Drupal 9 will be released in , and Drupal 8 will be end-of-life in November We just released Drupal 8. With six minor releases behind us, it is time to talk about the long-term future of Drupal 8 and therefore Drupal 7 and Drupal 9. I’ve written about when to release Drupal 9 in the past, but this time, I’m ready to provide further details. While we feel good about this plan, we can’t plan for every eventuality and we may continue to make adjustments.

Active development of Drupal 7 stops on the EOL date. This does certainly not mean that your site will come to a grinding halt on that day, but it.

I am almost always an optimist about the future, and Drupal 8 promised and usually delivered on many things:. But one thing that has always been annoying, and now is probably to the state of alarming, for some, is the fact that Drupal 8 adoption has still not hit a level of growth which will put it ahead of Drupal 7 adoption any time soon. This fact has been beaten to death, so you can read more about that elsewhere , or see the current usage graph here and yes, not every site reports back to Drupal.

And the main driver for this post, in particular, was the following tweet by webchick Angie Byron , who coincidentally is probably the main reason I dove headfirst into the Drupal community many years ago after she mentored me through my first core patch hi Angie! Time for my semi-annual pre- DrupalCon informal poll: If you’re still on Drupal 7 and haven’t moved to 8 yet, what’s holding you back? Please RT. I won’t answer all the questions above—there are a lot of nuances to each that I could not possibly answer in a blog post—but I do want to jot down a number of areas where I have seen pain and usually experienced on my own and which are still holding back widespread adoption of Drupal 8 by those who used to default to Drupal for ‘all the things’.

Caveat to those who read on—you may think I’m trying to disparage Drupal through the rest of this post. I’m not.

How To Create a Custom Format for a Date Field

Over the years of maintaining Drupal websites I noticed that a lot of developers — and themers — hard code date and time formats. I know this may sound like a rant, but I would like to demonstrate an easier and cleaner way of creating and managing date and time formats. For this example enter in “d-m-Y”. Now that our format has been created, go back to the types page and click on “Add date type”.

I often find a lot of the plugins are out of date with drupal. I can usually produce a large-scale ‘out of box’ Drupal 7 site with multiple content.

Recently, there has been a lot of buzz in the Drupal community about Drupal 9. The plans for launching Drupal 9 as well as for supporting Drupal 7 and Drupal 8 have come into focus. With every release of a new major version of Drupal, there is anxiety about how challenging the upgrading process will be. With Drupal 9, there is no reason to be anxious.

In the past, each new major version of Drupal was seen as a break from the last major version. The Drupal community did not guarantee compatibility between the new major version and the old major versions. This had some benefits but caused major disruption because of the compatibility issues, upgrading was not an easy process. Upgrading to the latest Drupal core was just part of the process. Most sites use contributed modules and themes and those modules and themes needed to be upgraded to be compatible.

Many of these contributed modules lagged for years if they were ever ported providing uncertainty if your site depended on those modules. You also needed to migrate the content to the new version of Drupal. There were upgrade paths for the content, but they were not always robust or ready when the new major version of Drupal was shipped. There had to be a better way to upgrade Drupal and with the shift in philosophy for Drupal 9, there is!

Should You Upgrade from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9?

I n this article I will show you how to theme a post date in Drupal 7. The goal is to take a boring date printed inline and theme it so it stands out as a design element. I covered this a while back for Drupal 6 so I thought this would be a nice update for doing this with Drupal 7.

Created a calendar of page/block; Created content type: event with Date field; Created an event, get node id get node id; Go to Views and open the calendar.

In this post, you will learn how to create a custom date format for Drupal 7. A field format is a functionality or a feature which allows to configure the display of a field for a presentation mode default, summary, etc. When some fields are provided to add to the content types from the Drupal core or from a contributed module, these ones usually display some generic presentation formats that although they are the most used, they do not always fit the display that we need for our projects.

As an example, we will use a date field provided by the Date module which it is in the Basic Page content. As we can observe in the following image, in the configuration of the presentation for the content type for the default presentation mode, the Date field offers three possible display formats which are configurable plus one format to be hidden. The first one would show the date and time, the second one shows the time passed from that date up to the present time and the third one would show the date in a plan text.

Well, to create our personalized custom format, the following steps are as follows: Step 1: In the module file of the custom module where we would like to add the functionality, we will add the following code. It is in this function where the format logic is implemented.

For more details on this, please see our updates in our post, Extending Drupal 7’s End of Life: What’s a nonprofit to do now? An Update. Drupal 9 is now scheduled to be released in , giving people a year to upgrade from version 8 to version 9, before Drupal 8’s EOL. At first glance, this seems pretty concerning. If your org is still on Drupal 7, then why should you bother upgrading to 8? Should you wait for 9? Major contributed modules will be usable in both Drupal 8 and 9, simultaneously.

This is all about dependencies. It will be nothing like the radical changes that happened under the hood between Drupal 7 and 8. For more in-depth information on all of this, please see this overview of the Drupal 7 and 8 EOL announcement, by the always-helpful Damien McKenna of Mediacurrent. Is any of this set in stone?

Dates with Drupal 7

Here is the bad news: If you didn’t update your site to the latest Drupal 7 or 8 releases before April 11, , chances are your site and the server it sits on are now being compromised. And the longer your site goes without this updating, the higher the likelihood it’s being used for cryptocurrency mining or worse. The standard release of Drupal, known as Drupal core , contains basic features common to content-management systems. These include user account registration and maintenance, menu management, RSS feeds, taxonomy, page layout customization, and system administration. The Drupal core installation can serve as a simple website, a single- or multi-user blog, an Internet forum , or a community website providing for user-generated content.

Drupal also describes itself as a Web application framework. Although Drupal offers a sophisticated API for developers, basic Web-site installation and administration of the framework require no programming skills. Drupal runs on any computing platform that supports both a web server capable of running PHP and a database to store content and configuration.
